A trusted partner
For Nationwide’s Today’s Families campaign, the goal wasn’t just to promote products or services. It was to authentically step into the mindset of financial professionals navigating the increasingly complex realities of modern families and to show that Nationwide genuinely understands what they carry every day.
Spacejunk led the project end-to-end, from initial scripting through final delivery. The creative approach centered on intimacy and empathy. We carefully wrote and directed the lead performance to feel like a sincere, unscripted testimonial rather than a polished marketing monologue. The tone was deliberate: reflective, honest, and grounded in real experience.
A key creative device was the use of childhood “memories” as an emotional counterpoint to the present-day narrative. We conceived and captured these moments as if they were fragments from the financial professional’s own past. Shot and treated to emulate Super 8 film, these scenes carry warmth, imperfection, and nostalgia.
Casting and wardrobe for the childhood sequences were handled with exceptional care. Every detail was designed to subtly mirror the adult subject, allowing the audience to intuitively connect the two versions of the same person. The intent wasn’t imitation, but emotional continuity, moments that feel remembered rather than recreated.
From performance direction and cinematography to film treatments, editing, and finishing, every decision served the same purpose: to create something emotionally resonant and believable. The final piece strikes a rare balance, delivering a heartfelt story that earns its sentiment while reinforcing Nationwide’s role as a partner who truly understands the people behind the profession.
