For the season finale of National Geographic’s Breakthrough, we partnered with Asylum Entertainment to design and animate two key sequences for the episode Power to the People, a story focused on the future of global energy and the engineers working to bring power to some of the most remote places on earth.

Our design direction took a 2D illustrated approach, blending classic advertising illustrations, Art Deco, and basic geometric shapes with textural overlays to create a beautiful, colorful aesthetic.
We originally proposed both a papercraft style and a geometric illustration style to our client. In the end we combined both elements for the final look.

Our first sequence visualized how energy is generated and distributed, translating complex infrastructure and technical processes into clear, elegant motion design. The goal was to make the science understandable without sacrificing scale or cinematic impact.
The second sequence mapped an extraordinary trek across the Himalayas, following engineers as they transported equipment through extreme terrain to deliver power where it had never existed before. We designed a stylized topographic journey that blended geographic accuracy with an elevated, cinematic look—helping viewers feel both the physical challenge and the human stakes of the mission.
From concept through design, animation, and final delivery, our work helped support the episode’s central theme: innovation, resilience, and the real people behind world-changing technology. It was a chance to bring clarity, beauty, and emotional weight to a story that lives at the intersection of science and humanity.
